ESL Accent Coach
15
I've studied accents and speech patterns essentially all my life, and have interacted with people of different nationalities and become quite adept at interpreting. However, I know it is sometimes difficult for the average English speaker to understand certain accents, making it even more difficult for people to make it through this country. While I can work as an English tutor as well, my goal is to help iron out those pesky tongue and jaw habits that prevent someone from sounding like a fluent speaker.
What to expect:
An initial icebreaker session to introduce ourselves, tell me a little about what your goal is, and for me to assess problem areas. After that, 30 min sessions to give you cues and simple exercises to work on for a couple of days or a week before moving on to the next lesson. (I will normally give 1-3 things to focus on, depending on how well you take instruction or can adapt.)
On a side note, I can also work with some Special Needs as a general speech therapist. Can work with kids or kids and parents, or adults.
Training & Qualifications
I have studied theater, and as such learned to project, enunciate, and articulate the English Language. I have already been working as an unofficial speech therapist with my younger sister, who has Down Syndrome. My father's family is Colombian, the family I tutor is Vietnamese, and have had friends from Kenya and Nigeria. Of course, I'm not limited to working with these accents.
Availability & Preferences
I'm pretty flexible, except on Sundays, and times 2:30-6 on Mondays-Friday.
