Children's Safety Training
75
Using WebEx I will spend about 1 hour with your child(ren) on the presentation/conversation described below:
Staying Safe with a Safety Plan:
This fun, empowering and age appropriate interactive lecture is tailored towards your child’s specific needs. The content is developmentally appropriate and focuses on solutions rather than instilling fear. Allow us to open the door and create a foundation for both children and their guardians on staying safe. The purpose of this training is to increase awareness and offers tools to avoid and escape dangerous, uncomfortable or threatening situations.
Your children will be delicately introduced and prepared for common tactics used by predators for targeting children of their age group. Not only does the content arm children against threats outside the home but also gives them tools for safely addressing issues that may arise at home, at daycare or school and even on the playground. Topics include respecting our personal space and gut instincts, identifying uncomfortable people and situations, choosing trusted adults and finding helpful adults.
Know your child has a safety plan even when you are not there to help or protect them.
The more the material is reviewed, practiced and incorporated, the more comfortable and willing your child will be using their safety plan when they need it. Along with the one hour virtual interactive lecture you will also receive a list of recommended, age appropriate books, as well as tips and tricks for how you can support, encourage and reinforce your child’s safety plan.
The following additional modules are available for elaboration and reinforcement of the same Safety Plan:
Paying Attention,
Trusting Our Gut,
Determining Safe or Unsafe,
Picking Trusted Adults,
Finding Helpful Adults,
Choosing Respectful Relationships (Anti-Bullying),
Having Healthy Boundaries (Consent).
Children are never too young to begin to learn safety. Even if you don’t believe your child is ready, this will prepare and provide you the information and resources to instill a safety plan as your child grows. This material is directed towards your child(ren). Please specify the ages of your child(ren).
Training & Qualifications
This material is currently offered through Beating Disaster, a south east Michigan company offering self defense and safety training.
Roughly 10 years of working with young children through various organizations was the needed background for the creation of this training. Although not my major, I invested time studying childhood development. I'm also experienced working with both adults and children with special needs.
As a self defense specialist and safety professional, it was imperative my own child was raised with safety as a top priority; however, I was unable to find age appropriate and effective resources to aid in this undertaking. It's not that materials weren't out there - we reviewed hundreds of books and videos; it's that I found unrealistic, unsafe and/or uninteresting materials. Eventually, this program naturally developed as my child grew since it is an adaptation of our adult training. Now its offered at various locations to various groups in south eastern Michigan.
Most importantly qualifications: this my passion, my business and was created for my own child.
