I am participant in a technology program in Indonesia for girls. We are learning how to help improve the economy and how to balance development with preservation of the environment. I spend a lot of my time sharing what I have learned with leaders from business and government, and helping our community to use technology and collaboration to improve our economy instead of more deforestation and further encroachment into the habitats of already threatened species.
The vast majority in this vast archipelago are faced with a vivid and harsh reality each day. They are almost solely preoccupied with gathering enough money to buy enough rice and cooking oil to feed their children. As a recent mother I share their concerns and feel fortunate that I have an opportunity to help my community to find better and more sustainable solutions to this ongoing crisis.
With the project from Simbi, I hope to continue to work as a teacher offering free classes in technology and sustainable development. I hope to help many more people in the community to start sustainable businesses and to work together to protect the environment of Indonesia which is ranked as one of the very most biodiverse counries on the planet.
