Let's Talk Sustainable Construction

10

10 per session - Virtual OK - Posted Feb 13, 2017

I will chat with you on Simbi about sustainable construction for 20 minutes per session.

I can help you with:

- Figuring out where to build your new home or outbuilding
- Figuring out what method to use when building
- Answering specific questions and concerns about sustainable building methods
- Getting an intro to alternative and sustainable building methods
- Learning about straw bale construction

I have a more than moderate amount of construction knowledge. My dad was a carpenter and so was his dad. I have built many things growing up on a farm and also working for my uncle's residential construction company. I have researched different types of alternative building methods including earth bag, straw bale, adobe and earth-bermed homes.

I cannot create house plans, give detailed building instructions or any type of professional approval. However, I can offer advice from personal experience and research, and discuss concepts and questions you may have about your design.

Training & Qualifications

From 2017 to 2021 I designed and built a passive home for me and my family that is insulated with stacked bales of wheat straw (see photos). In my past profession as a CAD draftsman, I took LEED courses and many others on sustainable design. I understand sustainable design from an architectural, mechanical, and electrical perspective.

Phil was very helpful and gave me the insights that I need. Phil also has better use of description and articulation than most people I come across du...ring the course of my business and my social forays. It's refreshing to speak with someone who can use more than five or six words to express themselves. I recommend working with this man. He is prompt, courteous, and thoughtful.show more

About Phil Wischmeyer

Hi, my name is Phil Wischmeyer and was born and raised on a farm in rural Ohio. After high school I joined the military and did six years in the Ohio Army National Guard including a tour overseas in I...raq. After completing an associates in Computer Aided Drafting and Design, I began working as a mechanical drafter and stayed in that field for about four years before pursuing local entrepreneurship. I’ve co-owned and operated a collection agency and an artisan bread bakery, as well as worked as a partner and sports writer for the hockey website Along the Boards. Today I live near Indian Lake, OH with my wife and three young children who we are currently homeschooling. We reside on an 11-acre property where we grow many different foods for our family. I am extremely passionate about regenerative agriculture, and self-sufficiency. This passion has led me to start my own edible landscape design business and also serve on the board of a local nonprofit that works to increase the production and access to locally-grown foods. In my spare time I enjoy being outside, being with my family, reading, listening to/playing music and watching television.. If any of my services offered interest you, please don't hesitate to message me. I love helping others as much as I am able. I am usually quick to reply, but I am often busy so if I don’t get right back to you please don’t be discouraged. I will always follow up and reply. I hope to trade with you soon!show more
